We are all works of art – Museumvereniging
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Museumvereniging I was asked to design their pride boat for the Amsterdam pride 2026. To celebrate the power of diversity, freedom, and self-expression, five ‘living works of art’ on the catwalk wear creations from Brille sur moi, the collection that I designed especially for this occasion.
The collection will be exhibited later this year at Wereldmuseum Amsterdam and Openluchtmuseum Arnhem.
The designs are presented by five models who portray the richness and diversity of both the museum world and society: from art and history to nature, science, and global cultures. The boat is colored in all shades of the rainbow. These colors refer not only to the LGBTQIA+ community but also to a conviction shared by museums: differences enrich us and make our society stronger. “The ‘Brille sur moi’ (‘Shine on me’) collection is an ode to creativity, art, culture, nature, science, and connection. For the Museum Boat, I have translated the wealth of stories that museums preserve into a compact, colorful collection in which various cultural influences and identities come together. The gleaming details represent the importance of paying attention to what we value. In this way, the collection invites us to see that we are all works of art.
Museum staff from across the country—from Naturalis in Leiden, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, and the Rijksmuseum Twenthe in Enschede to the Textielmuseum in Tilburg, the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, and the Next Nature Museum in Eindhoven—are inviting everyone to see themselves as a work of art through framed mirrors and positive protest signs. Because every person is unique, every story matters. We Are All Works of Art. With this message, the participating museums demonstrate that they offer space for different stories, perspectives, and identities, thereby contributing to a society in which everyone can feel seen.
