An exercise in JOY – Artzaanstad

Can one manifest joy and joyful experience by focusing your attention to it? this was the initial though that led to a four year artistic research project about joy.
From 2021 I have been working in several media on this subject, trying to answer this question. After several smaller presentations on different locations I am now ready for my grand finale. The extensive collection of works under the titel “An exercise in joy”  consists of tapestries, drawings, paintings, costumes, soft sculptures, ceramics, collage and graphics. Opulence, sensuality, softness, abundance and collecting play a major role in the vibrant visual language.
The teddy bear plays a leading role in the JOY project as a symbol of transference and generosity. For this project, I developed my own bear JOBE, which stands for Joy bear; a joy bear that returns in the JOY project in many ways. In the exhibition, you will see Jobe as a ceramic object, as a fabric bear, and in paintings and drawings. The appeal of the teddy bear has also led to a series of old teddy bears that have been taken over by the JOY project and are now unique objects that bring different worlds together. I am proud and blessed to have the possibility to present this show at Art Zaanstad, a great partner for this presentation.

On Saturday the 17th everybody is welcome for an afternoon of joy with drinks and music.
