De Anderen – ceramic face jugs
‘De Anderen’ (‘The Others’) consists of a series of jugs and a tapestry. For me, the series represents the enthusiasm I experience when confronted with a depiction of a human being that surprises or intrigues me. Something I do not necessarily recognize, but about which I do want to know more. When you realize that something or someone is different, what does that actually say about yourself?
In the awkwardness of these jugs, I see a moving beauty. These face jugs are a tribute to Art Brut, an art movement that centers on autodidactic artistry.
