Sorry Boy

I ran into a small roadblock in Tokyo made of plastic frogs with the word sorry greeting me on a bridge in a quiet neighborhood. No work was being done, and there was no one in sight. The word sorry came across as so outlandish in this location, that it opened my eyes to the meaningful image of the word sorry.
The English word in the Japanese surrounding sparked my interest and showed me how interesting and special the word can be in a different context. I have started a series of drawings with a character with an adorable face. After this step I have started to develop A 3d character from it. An encounter with an obstruction in public space led to a trail of thoughts about the magic and visual meaning of text as an image.

Sorry boy is a character that inspires people to take up their own space and be proud of themselves. It wants us to live together in harmony and positivity. His arms are open to welcome you. The Sorry boy drawings are made in Japan in different techniques on found papers from Japan.
For Osaka design and Art festival I made 10 Sorry Boy tapestries. This endearing character will develop continuously and will have its own journey through my work.
